Herman Treschon Gartner, 1785 - 1827. (Gartner's Ducts)
Hermann Treschow Gartner, born in 1785 in Denmark, distinguished himself as a skilled surgeon and an astute anatomist during the early 19th century. Among his contributions to medical science stands the structure now immortalised as Gartner's duct, a vestigial remnant from embryological development in female anatomy.
(Vestigial structures are various cells, tissues, and organs in a body which no longer serve a function. A vestigial structure can arise due to a mutation in the genome.)
